A word on references and posts

I'd like to admit that I used too many on the last post. I'm trying to blend a sufficient amount of informed scientific information into a news blog. It might be peculiar for a few weeks, but over time the correct balance of citation and referencing will be found. In other words, no one will look them up anyway or read this post. Have a nice night.

Update: More thinking of the overall direction of the posts. Will definitely refine for next post, which will come out tomorrow. More Mary Roach and less Pollan or Hawking I think.

Update II: I was particularly hard on myself in respect to the references. The reality was that I drew three from one journal, two others were books I've read, and the last was from a different journal. In a broader sense, why even reference? I probably didn't need to. The books didn't require a full citation, but I was bored. The Science articles were a chain of references. Just mention one probably. I'm mainly talking to myself. Through the blog.

Update III: I'm already falling into the trap of setting a question before the break. I think it's cliched and very undude. Of course the dude would just have Nixon bowling as his one and only post, so whatever that means.

  1. You bring a lot of information to the table, Darren. However, I had a lot of trouble trying to find your point in your last post.

Perhaps you can slice your blogs into a bit smaller, easier to digest pieces? News is about making information available and applicable to as many readers as possible. This makes information more powerful.

Most of us are smart people, but not all of us are experts. If you break it down a bit and get to your point quicker, your readers will be able to read the blog and use the references as necessary.

  2. Point taken. Give it a few weeks and I think I'll hit the right balance.

  3. I agree with Chase on this. There is way too much information and hardly any direction in your first blog post.

It's just tough to keep someone's interest when some of the wording is not clear.

Just divide it up next time…you could have easily had 3 blog posts with all of that stuff, ha.

  4. In a half joking way I want to deflect criticism by saying that I did originally name the blog wandering blog. So if it seems to meander and not have a point that is the point. Ha.

The fact is that I agree and appreciate the critiques.
